Kodak, TN - A late comeback attempt fell short as the Mississippi Braves lost to the Tennessee Smokies 4-2 on Sunday evening from Smokies Park.

Sean Gilmartin suffered his sixth loss of the season. He allowed four runs on just four hits in five innings. Last year's first-round pick struck out three and walked three.

Tennessee scored three runs in the second inning to strike early. Nate Samson hit a single to centerfield to score Rebel Ridling. Two batters later, Eliot Soto grounded a ball to third with runners at second and third. Joe Leonard threw to the plate late and Jim Adduci scored. Eric Jokisch then laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring Samson from third to stake the Smokies to an early 3-0 lead.

In the fourth, the Smokies extended their lead to 4-0 when Jokisch grounded into a bases-loaded double play, scoring Samson from third.

Meanwhile, Jokisch was dominant for much of his start, at one point retiring 15 straight Braves from the final out of the first inning until Phil Gosselin's single in the sixth. The Braves did manage a run in the eighth off of him after Matt Kennelly walked to lead off. Alberto Cabrera came on and allowed the inherited runner to score.

Then in the ninth, Tim Smith doubled to lead off, Todd Cunningham singled to put men at the corners, and Kennelly had a sacrifice fly to left to score the M-Braves' second run. Mississippi's potential tying run got no further than the plate in the ninth though, as Cabrera struck out Greg Paiml to end the game.

The win was Tennesse's seventh straight. Jokisch picked up his third win for the Smokies, allowing a run on three hits in 7 1/3 innings.

The Braves take on the Smokies in game five on Monday at 6:15 PM CT. RHP David Hale (4-3, 4.36 ERA) takes on RHP Trey McNutt (4-4, 2.35 ERA). Listen live beginning at 6:00 PM CT with the Vicksburg Toyota "Countdown to First Pitch" on 103.9 WYAB and online at MississippiBraves.com.
