Voyagers Celebrate Kid's Reading Program
June 4, 2012 - Pioneer League (PL) Great Falls Voyagers
Great Falls - The Great Falls Baseball Club announced today it reached the culmination of a 9 week elementary reading program. Called "9 Innings of Reading," the new program was launched this year in cooperation with Mountain View Elementary. The Voyagers rewarded the most successful readers with a pizza party hosted by team mascot Orbit today at 2 PM. This year's program was a test of a larger initiative the team and the Great Falls public school system looks to launch across all elementary schools in 2013.Students earned a "single," "double," "triple," or "home run" every week depending on how much they read. Each "hit" earned the children different prizes. The students' reading efforts earned them 272 Voyager water bottles, 276, team pennants, and over 700 free tickets. In total, the Voyagers distributed over 2050 prizes to deserving young readers. The pizza party was earned by students who collected a hit in each of the program's 9 weeks. The Voyagers and Mountain View Elementary were thrilled that 115 children earned the pizza party.
The defending Pioneer League champion Great Falls Voyagers will open the 2012 season on June 18 in Helena against the Brewers. The Voyagers' home opener is June 20th, also against the Brewers.
