Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Lake Elsinore, CA - Just one night after stealing the series-opener, the Quakes were routed in Lake Elsinore, as the Storm posted a 13-2 win at The Diamond.
Carlos Quentin, down on a big-league rehab assignment, had three hits and three RBIs, including a two-run homer that capped Lake Elsinore's 13-run, 13-hit performance.
Quakes' starter Greg Wilborn (1-1) was spotted a 1-0 lead in the second, as Jonathan Garcia singled and later scored on Charlie Mirabal's RBI single. The lead was short-lived though, as Wilborn got tagged for two in the second and three more in the third, as the Storm built a 5-1 lead.
Rancho got a run back in the fourth, as C.J. Retherford doubled to open the inning, then scored on a Chris O'Brien RBI double, making it 5-2.
That's as close as the Quakes would get though, as the Storm blew it open against Ryan Acosta and Jordan Roberts, scoring six times in the fifth and getting two more on Quentin's home run in the sixth, taking a 13-2 lead.
The Quakes only mustered one hit over the final five innings, finishing with just six knocks on the night.
Storm reliever Chris Franklin (1-0), who took over for starter Burch Smith with two outs in the fourth, pitched 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief for the win.
The Quakes and Storm will play the rubber game of the three-game set on Saturday at 6:05pm. Rancho is slated to send JonMichael Redding (1-1) to the hill, opposite Lake Elsinore's Mark Pope (4-4).
On Sunday, May 27th, the Quakes return to The Epicenter, hosting Modesto and Lake Elsinore in a six-game home stand. Sunday is another U.S. Bank Youth Baseball Little League Clinic, which begins at 10am. Tickets are available by calling 909-481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. Go Quakes!
