STOCKTON - Adam Duvall and Devin Harris each homered while the San Jose Giants held off a Stockton ninth-inning rally to earn an 8-7 victory over the Ports on Sunday afternoon at Banner Island Ballpark. In the opener of a three-game series, Stockton scored twice in the bottom of the ninth inning and had the potential tying run at third base before falling short.

Duvall (2-for-5, HR, RBI) and Harris (2-for-4, HR, 3 RBI) hit their seventh and fourth home runs of the season respectively to lead the Giants offensive attack. Chris Lofton (2-for-4, 2 SB) and Ryan Lollis (2-for-5) also finished with two hits apiece while Joe Panik (1-for-4, 2B, 3 RBI) drove home three runs.

After Stockton tied the game 5-5 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh, Duvall led off the eighth with a solo home run to deep left center field. The home run was Duvall's third over the first four games of the current road trip.

Edward Concepcion (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 SO) tossed a 1-2-3 bottom of the eighth for San Jose to keep the lead intact before the Giants added two insurance runs in the top of the ninth. Carter Jurica started the rally by drawing a walk before Lofton doubled down the right field line with one out to put runners on second and third. Panik was up next and he blasted a double off the fence in straightaway center to easily score both Jurica and Lofton for an 8-5 advantage.

Seth Rosin (1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 0 SO) entered the game to begin the bottom of the ninth, but gave up a solo home run on the first pitch that he threw as Stockton's Dusty Robinson went deep. Back-to-back singles from the next two hitters, Tony Thompson and Beau Taylor, preceded a sacrifice bunt from Nino Leyja to advance the runners to second and third with one out. Michael Gilmartin then grounded out to second as Thompson scored to make it 8-7 while Taylor, who represented the potential tying run, moved to third. Myrio Richard was up next and he grounded out sharply to second ending the game as Jurica made a backhanded stop moving up the middle before making the throw to first.

Jose Valdez (4-1) was credited with the win out of the Giants bullpen after not allowing a run in 1/3 of an inning. Valdez pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh to keep the game tied. Rosin picked-up his ninth save in 10 opportunities this season.

San Jose never trailed in the contest as they scored three times in the top of the first inning against Ports starting pitcher Ian Krol. Lofton started the game by drawing a walk before stealing second and third. Lofton then scored when the next batter, Panik, hit a sacrifice fly to center. The rally restarted when Lollis singled before Duvall singled and Ricky Oropesa drew a walk to load the bases. Harris followed with a line drive RBI single to right and then Dan Burkhart reached on a fielding error committed by the second baseman Leyja as Duvall scored to make it 3-0.

Ryan Bradley started on the mound for the Giants and surrendered one run in the second inning and two runs in the fourth as Stockton battled back to tie the game. In the second, Leyja walked with two outs, advanced to second on a balk and scored on Gilmartin's single up the middle. Two innings later, Taylor drew a two-out walk before Leyja singled to put runners on first and second. Gilmartin was up next and he ripped a double to the fence in deep right center field as both Taylor and Leyja scored to tie the game 3-3.

San Jose reclaimed the lead in the top of the sixth inning against reliever Jake Brown as Oropesa drew a leadoff walk and then Harris crushed a two-run homer to left.

Bradley worked the first five innings for the Giants yielding three runs (all earned) on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Stephen Harrold (1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 SO) pitched around a pair of singles in the bottom of the sixth to keep the lead at 5-3 before Phil McCormick (2/3 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 1 SO) entered to begin the bottom of the seventh. Miles Head started the seventh inning with a double before A.J. Kirby-Jones struck out swinging. Robinson then reached on an infield single as Head remained at second before Thompson singled to load the bases. Taylor followed by grounding into a fielder's choice to first base as Thompson was forced out at second, however Head scored to cut the lead to 5-4. Valdez (1/3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 SO) was then summoned from the bullpen, but he allowed an infield single to Leyja as Robinson came home to tie the game 5-5. The Ports had an opportunity to take their first lead later in the seventh as Gilmartin walked to load the bases, but Valdez induced Richard to bounce into a fielder's choice to second on a 3-1 pitch to end the inning.

Brown (1-3) suffered the loss for Stockton after surrendering Duvall's go-ahead home run in the eighth. Brown tossed 3 1/3 innings with two hits and three runs (all earned) allowed. Both of the hits were home runs.
