Fort Wayne, IN (May 17, 2012) - The Fort Wayne Mad Ants and Indiana Organ Procurement Organization (IOPO) announced today that Huntertown Elementary School is the winner of the Mad Ants 2011-12 Get Fit Challenge. Huntertown Elementary will receive a $1,000 prize to be used for fitness, athletic, or health education equipment.

The Mad Ants Get Fit Challenge is a program that encourages children and their parents to lead active and healthy lifestyles. The Challenge consisted of the Mad Ants putting on fitness assemblies at area schools over the past five months and encouraging the students to be active for at least thirty minutes a day for thirty straight days. Students were given an activity log to keep track of their progress and any student who completed the challenge received a free ticket to a Mad Ants game. Sixteen schools in five area school districts participated in the Challenge.

The Mad Ants and IOPO will present a check to the school on Friday, May 18th at 8:20AM to Huntertown Elementary P.E. Teacher Terri Frank and school Principal John Macleod Jr during a school assembly. Huntertown Elementary had the highest completion rate of the challenge per student out of the participating schools.

"I am very honored that our Huntertown students participated and completed the challenge, and are recipients of this award," said Mrs. Terri Frank. "Thank you to the Indiana Organ Procurement Organization for the $1000 award. We will be able to purchase several pieces of fitness/athletic equipment to use in our grade K-5 Physical Education program."

IOPO, a non-profit health service, is the vital link between people waiting for a transplant and potential donors. As a community service, IOPO sponsors school programs that teach students about the human body, healthy choices, and helping others.

Schools that are interested in being a part of the Mad Ants Get Fit Challenge for the next school year can contact Garrett Martz the Mad Ants office at (260) 469-4667 ext 107. There is no cost for a school to participate.
