Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
Woodbridge, VA - Through the years, the Potomac Nationals' Pfitzner Stadium has been a house of horrors for the Wilmington Blue Rocks franchise. From Boomer Whiting to recent big league call-up Tyler Moore, a sea of P-Nats have dealt an ocean of misery to a bountiful number of Blue Crewers. Now, add Ricky Hague to the list. In the bottom of the ninth with two outs and a full count, Hague's career-best fourth hit of the night brought Randolph Oduber home from second base and sent Potomac (11-14) to a 5-4 walk-off win over the Blue Rocks (11-16) in Friday night's series opener.
Oduber reached on the only walk issued by Wilmington pitching on the night as reliever Jon Keck (1-1) suffered the loss by issuing the free pass and allowing Hague's winning stroke.
A see-saw battle saw Wilmington grab the game's first lead on Jake Kueber's second-inning single that plated Roman Hernandez. Potomac responded with three unanswered runs, including two in the next half frame on Wade Moore's two-out double. Oduber ignited the third with his third home run of the season, a first-pitch laser off the batter's eye in center field against spot starter Ryan Dennick.
The first three Wilmington hitters in the sixth reached on base hit against starter Matt Swynenberg, and all three scored. Brett Eibner doubled in the first tally while Kuebler pushed the Rocks ahead, 4-3, with a two-run single later in the frame.
Swynenberg departed on the hook as he gave way to submariner Neil Holland (1-1). The repeating right-hander tossed three scoreless innings and struck out three for his first win.
The three-game set continues at 6:35 p.m. on Saturday night. Wilmington right-hander Greg Billo (1-3, 5.32) gets the ball against fellow righty Kyle Winters (1-3, 5.74). Broadcast coverage begins at 6:05 p.m. as studio host Mike Porter brings fans the Rocks Report Pre-game Show, presented by Wawa, on 89.7 WGLS-FM and online at wgls.rowan.edu.
