KODAK, Tenn. - A six-run third inning was too much for the Tennessee Smokies to overcome as they fell to the Montgomery Biscuits 7-4 Friday night at Smokies Park. The loss, in front of 2,289, puts the Smokies at 12-16 on the season. The Biscuits improved to 12-16.

Smokies starter Trey McNutt looked unhittable to start the game. The right-hander got the first six Montgomery batters he saw. An error by third baseman Matt Cerda, followed by a single by Mark Thomas and a three-run home run by Brad Coon started the third inning. Following two more walks, reliever Ryan Searle entered the game for McNutt. Searle wouldn't fare much better. He allowed a RBI double to Kyeong Kang and a triple to Michael Sheridan to give the Biscuits the commanding 6-0 lead.

McNutt (0-2) finished the game allowing five runs (two earned) on two hits in 2.2 innings of work.

The Biscuits added a single run in the fifth on a solo home run by Kang to extend their lead, 7-0.

Tennessee sparked a rally in the seventh. Back-to-back walks by Jim Adduci and Logan Watkins put runners on the bases for the Smokies. Jae-Hoon Ha's RBI single was followed by Justin Bour's third home run of the season to narrow the gap to 7-4.

Montgomery relievers Frank De Los Santos and Kirby Yates closed the door on the Smokies' rally to end the game.

Montgomery's Shane Dyer (3-2) picked up the win, allowing no runs on six hits in six innings on the mound.

Tennessee looks to bounce back in Game 4 vs. Montgomery Friday night at 7:15 at Smokies Park. The Smokies will send RHP Dallas Beeler (0-1, 3.29) to the mound, while Kyle Lobstein (1-2, 6.45) will get the start for the Biscuits. Friday is Star Wars night, presented by Fountainhead College.
