MEMPHIS, TN - The Redbirds used the long ball to push past the Cubs 5-4 Monday night at AutoZone Park.
Allen Craig led the way for the Redbirds driving in all five runs off two home runs while going 3-for-4 on the night. Craig's first home run drove in three in the first for an early 3-0 Memphis lead. The first baseman's second home run in the fifth drove in the last two Redbirds runs, putting the 'Birds back on top 5-4. Anthony Rizzo put the I-Cubs on the board in the third with a two-run base hit, as Adrian Cardenas' solo shot to right tied it up at three in the fourth while Blake Lalli's sacrifice fly gave Iowa a short-lived lead in the fifth.
Memphis starter Shelby Miller allowed four runs on seven hits in his five innings of work while walking four and striking out four for his third win this season. Eduardo Sanchez nailed down his team-leading fifth save with a scoreless ninth inning, walking one and fanning three. Iowa starter Travis Wood surrendered all five Redbirds runs on seven hits over five innings for the loss.
