Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
BRADENTON, Fla. (April 13, 2012) - The Bradenton Marauders capitalized on a Caleb Thielbar throwing error to complete a come-from-behind, 3-2 victory over the Fort Myers Miracle in 10 innings on Friday night at McKechnie Field.
Tied 2-2 heading into the bottom of the tenth, Thielbar (0-1) gave up a lead-off double to Benji Gonzalez. Marauder second baseman Gift Ngoepe stepped up to the plate to attempt a sacrifice bunt. On a 2-0 pitch, Ngoepe sent a trickler back to Thielbar. Initially looking at the lead runner at third base, Thielbar bobbled the ball and then threw errantly to first allowing Ngoepe to reach safely and Gonzalez to score.
Fort Myers had a 2-0 lead entering the eighth until Drew Maggi delivered a one-out, two-run single to tie the game. Maggi's RBIs snapped a 16.1 inning scoreless streak of the Marauder bats against the Miracle staff.
Angel Morales started the scoring in the fourth with an RBI single that followed a lead-off double from Jairo Perez. Fort Myers added another run in the seventh when Lance Ray blasted a 1-0 fastball from Marauder reliever Quinton Miller over the right field fence.
Miracle starter B.J. Hermsen received a no-decision after pitching six scoreless innings with three walks and three strikeouts while allowing just two hits. Hermsen has now thrown 11 innings over two starts without giving up a run.
Top prospect Jameson Taillon lasted five innings for Bradenton giving up a run on three hits and fanning six. Jhonathan Ramos (2-1) earned the victory with two scoreless innings in the ninth and tenth.
The Miracle (4-4) return to Hammond Stadium to finish the series with Bradenton (3-5) at 6:05 p.m. The first overall draft pick in 2011, Gerrit Cole, is expected to start for the Marauders. The State Farm pregame show with the "Voice of the Miracle" Brice Zimmerman and Adam MacDonald begins at 5:45 p.m.
