
Penguins Annouce Transactions

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced six transactions today involving players from the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL. Forwards Chris Barton, Cody Chupp, Ryan Schnell and defenseman Andrew Hotham have been recalled from loan, while goaltender Patrick Killeen has been assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton by Pittsburgh. In addition, defenseman Peter Merth has been assigned to a professional try-out agreement.
Barton, 24, led the Nailers in scoring with 60 points (29g, 31a) in 69 games and ranked first on the team in goals (20) and second in assists (31). He also finished third among ECHL rookies in points.
Chupp compiled 17 goals, 17 assists and 14 penalty minutes in 43 games for Wheeling. In 13 games with the Penguins, the Big Rapids, MI-native registered four assists.
Schnell played in 18 games for the Nailers on the year, totaling four assists and 109 minutes of penalties. He has also notched an assist and 46 PIM in 12 contests with the Penguins.
Hotham tallied eight goals and a team-leading 36 assists during 52 games for Wheeling. His 44 points was third on the squad. The 25-year old rookie also contributed four points (2g-2a) in four postseason contests.
Killeen recorded a 19-12-4 record over 36 games this season, while posting a 2.69 goals against average and an .893 save percentage. The second-year netminder from Carp, Ontario has gone 2-2-0 for the Penguins in 2011-12 with a 2.93 GAA and an .871 save percentage in five contests.
Merth returns to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for the fourth time this season, where he has posted two assists and 22 penalty minutes over 10 games. Originally from New Westminster, British Columbia, Merth notched 12 points (3g-9a) and a team-best +20 plus/minus rating in 50 games for Wheeling.
