Everblades Take 2-0 Lead in Series with 4-2 Win

ESTERO, FL -- Cedric McNicoll scored a goal and added an assist to lead the Florida Everblades to a 4-2 victory over the Road Warriors Wednesday night at Germain Arena. The win gives Florida a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series.

Florida picked up where they left off on Monday night by taking advantage of an early powerplay opportunity. Mathieu Roy took received a pass at the left side of goal, and used some fancy moves in front of Greenville goalie Jason Missiaen and put in puck in the net giving the Blades a one goal lead.

Florida increased its lead to two after Cedric McNicoll intercepted a pass in Greenville's zone and saw an opening and fired a wrist shot from the left wing circle that beat Missiaen for the second time of the period.

The Road Warriors showed off their own powerplay abilities, taking advantage of a two-man advantage 14-minutes into the period. Marc-Olivier Vallerand received a pass in the left side circle and quickly got off a slapshot that would sneak past Florida goaltender John Muse pulling Greenville within one after one period of play.

Florida added to their lead in the second period after eight minutes of play taking advantage of another powerplay. Sebastian Piche fired a shot on goal which was hit into the air by Missiaen, but Leigh Salters saw the puck in the air and knocked it into the goal, giving the Blades a two goal lead.

Florida got their first three goal lead of the game when Scott Pitt, Brayden Irwin and Rutherford skated into the Road Warriors zone on a 3-on-2 rush . Pitt sent a cross ice feed to Rutherford in the left side circle who fired a shot on goal that ripped get past the glove of Missiaen to give Florida a 4-1 lead.

Greenville cut the lead to two, 16-minutes into the period. Chris McKelvie raced down the left side boards and sent a pass through the crease finding Vallerand who tapped it into the net to make the score 4-2 which would hold for the remainder of the period.

The Everblades and their goaltender John Muse shut down the Road Warriors in the third, to preserve the a 4-2 victory, and to take a 2-0 lead in the best of five series.

John Muse earns the win stopping 32 of 34 shots while Jason Missiaen takes the loss allowing four goals on 33 assists.
