Stewart Named ECHL Goaltender of the Month

Elmira Jackals goaltender Brian Stewart has been named the ECHL Goaltender of the Month for March, the league announced on Wednesday. Stewart is the first Elmira goaltender in the club's ECHL history to win this award.

A native of Burnaby, British Columbia, Stewart went 7-1-0-1 in March, posting a .937 save percentage and a 1.62 goals-against average along with a shutout, helping Elmira clinch its first-ever regular-season conference championship.

The 26-year-old opened the month with three-straight victories, including his first shutout of the season on Mar. 4 against Reading. After suffering his only regulation loss of the month on Mar. 16 against Florida, Stewart reeled off four-consecutive wins, including a 40-save performance in a 3-2 win at Wheeling on Mar. 25. He allowed two goals or less in each of his first eight appearances during the month.

Stewart was third in the ECHL with 26 wins, while checking in ninth with a .917 save percentage and 10th with a 2.56 goals-against average.

Elmira and Reading meet in Game 2 of the best-of-five Eastern Conference Quarterfinals on Wednesday night at the Sovereign Center at 7:05 p.m. The Jackals will host the final three games of the series this Friday, Saturday (if necessary), and Monday (if necessary).
