Cortellessa Scores Twice in Otters Loss

Erie, PA - Anthony Cortellessa tried to begin an Erie Otters comeback with a pair of goals but the Kitchener Rangers prevailed with a 6-4 win Saturday night in front of 3,245 at Tullio Arena.

The Rangers quickly got on the board as Radek Faksa scored 19 seconds into the game. Jake Evans tied the score for Erie 44 seconds later he fired a one-timer from the slot for his 10th goal of the season.

Connor Crisp made an immediate impact in his return to the lineup at his usual position of forward, as he set up a Mac McDonnell shot in the right circle. McDonnell beat John Gibson through the blocker side for his seventh goal of the season at 12:19.

Brent Pedersen tied the game for the Rangers 62 seconds later after he put in his own rebound through Keinan Brown.

In the second period, the Rangers went off to a flying start as Tobias Rieder scored ten seconds into the period and added a second goal on the power play at 2:30. Faksa then put the Rangers up by three at 5:19.

After Luke Cairns was stopped on a penalty shot, Cortellessa scored the first of his two goals after his initial shot by stopped by Gibson, then rolled into the net off the skate of Ryan Murphy at 11:43.

Cortellessa scored his second of the game at 7:37 of the third on a nifty redirection from a Troy Donnay shot. Brown kept the Otters in the game with many timely saves, including a robbery of Brandon Francisco with the glove that was upheld by video review.

Despite a last push by the Otters, Andrew Crescenzi put the game away with an empty net goal to seal the victory for the Rangers.

Mitch Eisenberg had a pair of assists for the Otters, while McDonnell had a goal and an assist. Faksa and Rieder each had two goals and two assists for the Rangers. Brown made 33 saves in his first game on loan from the Peterborough Petes.
