Real Salt Lake News Release
SANDY, Utah (Wednesday, February 8, 2012) - Real Salt Lake has announced that the Utah side's mid-summer showdown at Seattle Sounders FC has been moved to Wednesday, October 17. Kickoff time and broadcast information for the new matchday at CenturyLink Field in Seattle will be announced once finalized.
The October 17 contest will be RSL's second of the season at the site of its MLS Cup 2009 triumph, as the Claret-and-Cobalt will also take on Sounders FC at CenturyLink Field on Saturday, May 12 (8:00 p.m. MT, live on ABC4).
The date change partially alleviates a congested July schedule for Real Salt Lake, as the original July 18 gameday was one of six MLS Regular Season matches on the docket during the month, a slate that could also include a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Semifinal Round contest (July 10/11). Instead, the new October date breaks up a rare three-week rest in RSL's schedule towards the end of the campaign, falling between a FIFA International Window (Oct. 12-16) and RSL's final bye weekend (Saturday, Oct. 20) of the 2012 campaign.
Visit RealSaltLake.com/schedule for RSL's full 34-game regular season slate.
Real Salt Lake will begin its eighth season of Major League Soccer play on Saturday, March 10, when the Claret-and-Cobalt will travel to The Home Depot Center for a rematch of last year's Western Conference Championship against the LA Galaxy (8:30 p.m. MT, pre-game coverage on ABC4 begins at 8:00 p.m.). RSL will then open up the home portion of its 2012 schedule a week later on Saturday, March 17, when it plays host to the New York Red Bulls at Rio Tinto Stadium (8:00 p.m. MT, pre-game coverage on ABC4 begins at 7:30 p.m.).
Tickets to see the Claret-and-Cobalt take on legendary striker Thierry Henry, Mexican National Team captain Rafael Marquez and the rest of the Red Bulls are still available and can be purchased online via the "TICKETS" section of www.RealSaltLake.com or over the phone by calling 801-727-2701. Ticket options include single-game seats; the "Opening Day 2-Pack," which includes a pair of seats to the March 17 opener and two vouchers for another MLS Regular Season contest in Sandy; and 2012 RSL Season Tickets, which includes several benefits for fans that Join the Pride this season.
