Columbus Cottonmouths News Release
While the current Columbus Cottonmouths hockey team is preparing for a pair of home games this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10 and 11, several former Snakes are also gearing up for their return to the ice at the Snake Pit this weekend.
Over 20 former Cottonmouths, the majority of which were members of one of the Snakes' two championship teams, return to Columbus for our biennial Legends weekend. Former players returning to Columbus include Dan Leslie, Tim Green, Ryan Aikia, Frankie Ouellette, Mick Kempffer, Derek Marchand, Mike Martens, Doug Mann, Kevin Plager, Marcel Richard, Jerome Bechard, Brad Prefontaine, Ole Kjenstad, Tom Wilson, Ryan Haggarty, Craig Stahl, Brent Toews, Tommy McMonagle, Colby Will, Daryl Moor, Brock Johnson, Chris Rook and Derek Crimin.
On Friday, Feb. 10, Cottonmouths Legends and Fort Benning's hockey team will be available for autographs on the concourse before the game and during the intermissions. It's also Georgia Lottery Night, with one lucky fan taking home $300 in instant win tickets. Game time is 7:30 pm against the Knoxville Ice Bears. Just two points separate the 2nd place Snakes and 3rd place Ice Bears in the SPHL standings.
On Saturday, a special 6 pm exhibition game, The Camo Classic, will be held between the Snakes Legends and Fort Benning's hockey team. Gates will open at 5 pm. Happy Hour with $2 Bud Light will take place from 5-6:30 pm. The Cottonmouths' regularly-scheduled game against the Mississippi Surge will take place following the Camo Classic.
Saturday is also Military Appreciation Night. Over 2,000 soldiers are expected to be in attendance. Anyone showing Military ID can purchase $5 tickets at the Civic Center box office. A special thank you to all of our sponsors for Military Night and Legends Weekend: Independence Place Apartments, Winn Dixie, Baby Waves, Dr. Jay Brodwyn Chiropractic Care, Carmike Cinemas, Cricket, Locos Cantina, Dominos, Greystone Properties, Growing Room, Hooters, Jay Auto Mall, Trailers and Hitches, State Farm, Veolia, TIC Federal Credit Union and Commando Military Supply.
Commemorative jerseys featuring images of former Snakes will be worn by both the Legends players and current Cottonmouths. Pre-bidding for the former players' jerseys will take place at the Fan Activities Center throughout the game. Bidding for these jerseys will continue with a live auction following the game, starting with the highest pre-bid. Commemorative jerseys worn by the current Snakes team will be auctioned live on the ice following the game.
