Stampede Weekly Update: Herd Return Home for Two Games this Weekend

The Sioux Falls Stampede (12-20-2) return home to the Sioux Falls Arena this weekend for two big Western Conference games against Waterloo and Fargo on Friday and Saturday. The Stampede enter the weekend three points behind Des Moines for the sixth and final playoff spot in the West.

On Friday, the Herd face the Waterloo Black Hawks for the second time this season. The Herd defeated Waterloo 3-2 in a shootout back on October 8th in Sioux Falls. The Hawks are 19-11-4 and in third place in the Western Conference.

On Saturday, the Fargo Force return to Sioux Falls. The Stampede are 2-2-0 against Fargo this year. The Force are 19-15-3 and in fourth place in the West.

Lordo commits to Penn State!

The Stampede proudly announced this morning that captain defenseman Joseph Lordo has committed to Penn State University for the 2012-13 season. Lordo will be part of Penn State's inaugural season at the Division I level.

The Nittany Lions begin Division I play in the fall of 2012 and will join the all-new Big Ten Conference the following season. They will also begin play at the 200,000-square foot, 6,000 seat sate-of-the-art Pegula Ice Arena for the 2013-14 season.

Military Night this Friday

This Friday, February 3rd is Military Night with the Stampede! Any member of the military can purchase tickets for just $5 each at the Sioux Falls Arena Box Office with their military ID!

Saturday, February 4th is DealChicken.com night with the Herd. Dealchicken.com will be handing out ice scrapers and foam pucks to the first 500 fans through the doors! Plus sign up with dealchicken.com and have a chance to win several fabulous prizes, including an autographed Stampede team jersey!

McDonald's Skating Party Saturday

This Saturday is also the final McDonald's of Sioux Falls & Brandon Stampede Skating Party! Fans are encouraged to bring their skates to the arena and skate with the players for 30 minutes after the game against the Force. Fans can also take pictures and get autographs from their favorite players!

For non-skating fans, several players will be made available outside the Stampede locker room after the game to meet fans and sign autographs.

The Sioux Falls Arena does not rent skates so please bring your own to the game.

Wiener Dog Races February 18th

The 5th annual Sioux Nation Pet Clinic "Wiener Dog Races" are coming on Saturday, February 18th at the Sioux Falls Arena! Registration has begun. Sign up your wiener dog now for the race! The first 40 entries will be accepted.

Redmond to play in AHL All-Star Game tonight

Former Stampede star Zach Redmond will suite up for Team East tonight in Atlantic City, New Jersey at the 2012 American Hockey League (AHL) All-Star Game.

Redmond participated in the skills competition last night, including the Rapid Fire and Pass and Score events. He tallied three goals on five shots in the rapid fire contest.

Redmond is playing with the St. John's IceCaps this season, the top affiliate of the Winnipeg Jets. The game takes place tonight at 6 PM locally and can be seen live on ahllive.com or on the NHL Network tomorrow at 2 PM. It will also be live on various Fox Sports outlets around the country, but not locally in Sioux Falls. Redmond has 18 points (5g, 13a) and is a +10 in 41 games this season.
