Doug Robinson has been named the new General Manager of the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings Professional Baseball Club, co-owner Byron Pierce has announced.

However, Robinson is no stranger to Harlingen and the Valley. He was Director of Operations for the Whitewings before transferring as Assistant General Manager for the Laredo Broncos. Both teams at the time were members of the United League.

Robinson later was named the Sports Director and Anchor for the NBC affiliate television station in Laredo.

"This is a new era for the Whitewings and there will be a number of positive changes that the area fans will appreciate", Robinson said.

"One change is we no longer will charge for parking", Robinson said. Of course, season ticket holders will receive priority parking, he said.

"The Whitewings also will be even more family friendly, Robinson said.

Players and management will go out and be involved with the communities, visiting youth organizations and hospitals, among other things, Robinson added.

Joining them will be WildWing, the North American Baseball League's favorite mascot.

"We are looking for another successful season on the field as defending Champions of the Southern Division of the NAL, with the return of Field Manager Eddie Dennis and some of the players from 2011, Robinson said.

"We also look forward to going against the Fort Worth Cats, who joined our division of the league", he said. This should make it even more interesting for the fans and the players, he concluded.
