Mississippi RiverKings News Release
Fayetteville, NC - The Mississippi RiverKings, led by two Mike Tumoi goals, took down the FireAntz 5-4 in overtime for their third straight victory.
The RiverKings took an early lead as Deven Stillar's one-man effort was enough to beat Mike Brown and give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Mike Tuomi added a second goal for the 'Kings on a feed from Chev Wilson, who picked up his first professional point as the RiverKings took a two goal lead.
But Fayetteville struck back. Jesse Biduke continued his torrid play against the RiverKings as he netted his 11th goal of the season to cut the lead to one.
Early in the second, Tuomi added his second goal of the game from Wilson as the 'Kings took a 3-1 lead. But just eight seconds later Josh McQuade buried home a shot through the five-hole of Scott Darling and the lead was back to one at 3-2.
The FireAntz tied the game at three as Chris Rebernick tipped in a Kyle Frieday pass past Darling to bring the score to three a piece.
Ken Selby gave the RiverKings the lead again as he battled down low and slid the puck around the Fayetteville netminder to give the 'Kings a one goal edge with just over six minutes left to go in regulation play.
But the FireAntz did not go away. With Mike Brown on the bench, Bobby Reed punched a Chris Leville pass past Darling to tie the game at four with just 47 seconds left to go in the final frame.
In overtime, the RiverKings had chances early as Ken Selby peppered Brown with multiple shots from the slot, but it was Mark Magnowski who converted on a Darrell Stoddard set up to give the 'Kings the 5-4 victory in overtime.
The win improved Scott Darling to 7-10-1 as he stopped 22 of 26 shots against. He has now won his last three starts. Mike Brown took the loss for the second straight night as he stopped 43 of 48 shots and fell to 9-15-2.
