Springfield Jr. Blues News Release

Jr. Blues face familiar rival with home & home series against St. Louis this weekend

The Springfield Jr. Blues face heated rivals the St. Louis Bandits for the 9th and 10th time this season with a weekend home-and-home series on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday's game (Jan. 14) is a home game for the Jr. Blues, with a 7:00 p.m. puck drop at the Nelson Center. The first 500 fans at Saturday's game will receive a Jr. Blues-Coors can koozie.

The game in St. Louis (actually Chesterfield), which was originally scheduled for Friday evening, will be played 2:00 pm Sunday, January 15 at the Hardee's Iceplex.

The Jr. Blues are coming off an exciting two game series last weekend at the Nelson Center as they took three out of four possible points against Kalamazoo. Each team battled from behind in one of the games to send both evenings into overtime and eventually to shootouts. The big crowds at last weekend's games were a huge help to the team securing the three points.

The Jr. Blues currently sit in third place in the NAHL's Midwest Division and they look to make up ground on second place St. Louis with this head-to-head series this weekend.

As always, tickets are available at the Nelson Center door. Concessions--including beer, soda, pizza, hot dogs and more--are affordable for the whole family.

Jr. Blues in the community

A Jr. Blues fundraiser will be held on Thursday, January 12 (all day) at the Pizza Hut, 1861 Sangamon Avenue. All fans who received a slip at last weekend's game can redeem them during this event, and more slips are available at the Nelson Center. Anyone who redeems a slip will have up to 20% of their purchase donated to the Jr. Blues. Jr. Blues players will be making appearances at Pizza Hut that evening to support the fundraiser.

Hockey players know about giving blood, and Thursday, January 19 is Jr. Blues Day at the Central Illinois Community Blood Center, 1134 S. 7th Street. All blood donors who say they are there on behalf of the Jr. Blues will receive a free Jr. Blues gift. Items available may include game tickets, t-shirts, pucks, cow bells, and more. The Blood Center is open 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome or call 866-GIVE-BLD (448-3253) to schedule an appointment. Do something vitally important to our community and support the Jr. Blues at the same time: Give Blood!
