SOCKERS SWEEP ANAHEIM, PHOENIX
Winning their 20th and 21st consecutive matches over the weekend, the San Diego Sockers served notice once again that they are the premier team in the PASL. On Saturday night the Sockers honored legendary head coach Ron Newman and defeated their bitter rivals from Anaheim 13-6 behind a six-point performance (five goals, assist) from Kraig Chiles. On Sunday the Sockers travelled to Phoenix for a 10-3 win over the expansion Phoenix Monsoon, elevating San Diego to a 7-0 record on the season.
MVP WATCH: CHILES POURS IN 12 POINTS
On the heels of a 2010-2011 MVP campaign, Sockers forward Kraig Chiles is heading for career highs across the board this season. The former Poway and SDSU star had nine goals and three assists on the weekend in wins over Anaheim and Phoenix, lifting his league-leading totals to 23 goals and 12 assists (35 points) in seven games. Chiles currently leads the PASL in goals and points.
SUSI 500: SEVEN TO GO
With three assists in Saturday's win over the Bolts, Sockers captain Aaron Susi increased his career total to 493 points in 15 years of indoor soccer. Susi needs just seven more points for 500 in his illustrious indoor career. On the year Aaron has four goals and nine assists (13 points) in six games.
FARBER, WUNDERLE SHINE IN MIDFIELD
Former PASL MVP Brian Farber had three goals and three assists over the weekend, improving his totals to 12 goals and 6 assists (18 points, T-8th PASL). Meanwhile, former Poway and USD star Eric Wunderle broke out for a five-point game against Anaheim (hat trick, two assists) and followed it up with a goal and assist against Phoenix. Wunderle has seven goals and three assists (10 points) in seven games this year.
UP NEXT: TACOMA TRIP
The Sockers travel to Tacoma for back-to-back games against the Stars, both carried live on 619Sports.Net. Saturday's 7:00pm game counts as a "double", also serving as the third round of the US Open. Sunday's game starts at 3:00pm.
