Sioux Falls Skyforce News Release
Sioux Falls, S.D. (Dec. 17, 2011) - The Dakota Wizards defeated the Sioux Falls Skyforce 97-95 Saturday night at the Sioux Falls Arena. A late rally by the Skyforce fell short as the rivals split the weekend series.
Sioux Falls took a 54-49 lead at halftime off of Billy McShepard's 3-pointer at the buzzer. Led by Maurice Baker, who scored 14 of his 26 points in the third quarter, Dakota stormed back to take a four-point lead after three quarters. Dakota took control in the fourth quarter and led by eight with a little over 30 seconds left in the game.
Ryan Anderson knocked in a 3-pointer for the Skyforce and then a quick steal and layup by Dominique Coleman cut the deficit to three (96-93) with 5.9 seconds left in the game. After Justin Johnson converted 1-of-2 free throws for Dakota to put them back up four, the Skyforce got another quick basket out of a timeout to pull within two with less than a second left on the clock.
Dakota nearly threw the ball away on the inbounds pass but time ran out and they secured the two-point victory.
Baker had another great performance for Dakota with 26 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Mike Anderson was active on the boards, finishing with a double-double (14 points, 14 rebounds).
Coleman put forth another solid effort with 14 points and 10 assists. McShepard recorded his fourth double-double (13 points, 10 rebounds) in five games before leaving late in the third quarter due to an injury.
Sioux Falls visits Fort Wayne on Thursday at 7 p.m. CT. Dakota returns home to face Springfield on Thursday at 7 p.m. CT.
