Former Wheat King GM Glen Lawson to be Honoured

Brandon, MB. - A former general manager of the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings will be recognized at this Friday's game against the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors at Westman Communications Group Place.

Glen Lawson, who was recently inducted into the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame in Winnipeg, has been chosen the first recipient of the newAtom-Jet Group Innovator of the Month Award for the 2011-12 WHL season.

Lawson was born and raised in Brandon and after playing junior hockey for the Wheat Kings in the mid fifties, he joined the Fort William Hurricanes. Following his time with the 'Canes, he returned to Brandon and coached a talented group of juveniles in the Senior Big Six League and helped them to a provincial championship.

Following years of success behind the bench, Glen was instrumental in helping Brandon join the Western Canada Hockey League in 1967, where he served as the club's first official general manager.

Lawson was one of a number of Wheat King alumni to be elected to Manitoba's Hall this year, joining former ownerBob Cornell and playersDon Dietrich andJayson More.
