Howes, 24, missed the first seven games of the season due to an injury suffered last year. Despite playing much of the season while injured, Howes had a breakout year with the Aces. After being acquired from the Stockton Thunder in late October, the Toronto, Ontario native exploded to finish the year with 58 points (22g, 36a) in 59 games in an Alaska sweater. Howes improved as the year went on, finishing the regular season with points in 17 of his last 19 games. 42 of his 59 points with the Aces came after January 1. He got even better in the post-season, pacing Alaska's scoring with 19 points (7g, 12a) in 12 games. His magical post-season run was highlighted by a ten-point (4g, 6a) performance in a four-game sweep over his former club, the Victoria Salmon Kings in the Western Conference Finals. Howes scored or assisted on the game winning goal in all four games. The Aces went a perfect 12-0 in the playoffs in games in which Howes appeared, and he had points in 11 of those 12 contests. He was voted as the Most Valuable Player of the ECHL post-season after the Aces claimed their second ever Kelly Cup Championship on May 21.
The 5'11", 190 lbs. forward will begin his fourth pro season. Howes ended the last year's regular season as the eighth highest scorer in the Western Conference. Before coming to Alaska, Howes had 48 points (22g, 26a) in 86 games for Victoria. As a rookie, Howes was called up to the Manitoba Moose of the AHL for five games. Prior to turning pro, Howes played in QMJHL, where in his final year with the Saint John Sea Dogs, he had 70 points (42g, 28a) in 59 games.
Kissel, 24, is fresh off of his first-ever AHL call-up. He appeared in two games for the Sound Tigers last weekend before being returned to Alaska. He is off to a terrific start this season, notching four goals in his first four games this year. The 5'9", 180 lbs. Crestwood, IL native is currently tied for the most goals on the Aces with Tyler Ruegsegger. At the time of his call-up, Kissel was tied for first in ECHL goal scoring.
The Aces begin a six-game home stand on Wednesday at 7:15pm. They continue the series over the weekend with Friday and Saturday night games. Tickets are currently available for all three.
