Abbotsford Heat News Release

Surrey, BC - The Abbotsford Heat are set to play their first and only exhibition game of the 2011-12 schedule today at South Surrey Arena where they'll face off with the UBC Thunderbirds.

While over 40 bodies remain in Flames training camp, the Heat still have a full roster on -ice today as Troy Ward and his staff have an opportunity to evaluate numerous newcomers, while checking in on a few veterans sprinkled through the line-up.

Five Heat regulars from recent seasons will be in the line-up at forward - including Ryley Grantham and Mitch Wahl who missed significant time to injury in 2010-11 - while the defense will be comprised entirely of newcomers. In total over a dozen players will be suiting up in their first game with the organization.

While this will be the first game in many months for many Heat hopefuls, the same can't be said for a busy UBC squad that beat SAIT 5-2 on Friday, and 5-0 on Saturday night - sweeping a weekend home series. The T-Birds arrive in Surrey a banged up unit with at least four regulars doubtful to play due to an injury plagued start to their CIS - Canada West campaign.

This evening's game is being hosted by the Surrey Eagles, with a 6:05 face-off at the South Surrey Arena. Net proceeds of the event got to Semiahmoo Minor Hockey Association . You can catch the broadcast of the game on UStream.com, starting with a pre-game show at 5:45 with Ryan Pinder and Vanni De Bartolo.
