Columbus Cottonmouths News Release
The Columbus Cottonmouths welcome back four forwards as Jesse Cole, Matt Kinnunen, Daryl Moore and Mitch Wall have re-signed with the Snakes for the upcoming season.
Cole, 26, enters his third season as a Snake. Cole came to Columbus as a rookie in 2009 after four seasons at Neumann College. In his first professional season, he was named to the SPHL All-Rookie team, collecting 51 points in 53 games. The Stratford, Ontario native has led the Snakes in goals each of the last two seasons, with 28 in 2009 and 31 in 2010. Last season, Cole also led the Snakes in points with 52.
Kinnunen came to Columbus last season for his professional hockey debut. The 21-year old forward collected 28 points in 52 games. Prior to coming to the Columbus, he spent three seasons with the Melville Millionaires of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.
Moore is the third veteran to be signed by the Snakes, joining Brett Hammond and Orrin Hergott. Daryl came to Columbus late in the 2009-10 season, registering four points in the final six regular season games. Last season, he picked up 38 points in 49 regular season games, and led the Snakes in the playoffs with three goals and three assists in five games. Prior to coming to Columbus, Moore spent time with other teams in the SPHL including the Twin City Cyclones and Louisiana Ice Gators. This will be his sixth professional season.
Wall, 22, joined the Snakes last season as a rookie. The Edam, Saskatchewan native collected 111 penalty minutes and 18 points in 47 games. Prior to his professional career, Mitch spent four seasons with the Battlefords North Stars of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League where he collected 81 points in 129 games.
"Mitch and Matt are both second year guys who I expect to come into camp with a little confidence," head coach Jerome Bechard said. "I'm going to need them to play with a little more attitude this year. As a team, we have to play a lot tougher, and these guys can play that way and have both proven that they can play in this league. Daryl and Jesse have proven themselves to be top point producers, and I don't expect anything less from them. We will have three or four new guys pushing some of returning players, which will make us stronger one way or another."
The Snakes have now signed twelve returning players and two newcomers for the upcoming season. The Cottonmouths kick off their 16th season with a pair of home games Friday and Saturday, October 21 and 22 at 7:30 p.m.
Season tickets are on sale now, with flex ticket packages starting at just $88. The Cottonmouths offer a convenient payment plan to help fans meet their budget needs.
