Great Falls Voyagers News Release
GREAT FALLS Mont.--Voyager bats continued to struggle as they fell to the Owlz, 4-1.
Great Falls drops its second straight game, as the squad collects just three hits in the game, which included a span of 13 straight hitters retired, a string that started in the third inning.
Baudilio Lopez (1-4) picked up his first win of the season, going six scoreless innings. The righty, who became a father three weeks ago, did not overpower the Voyagers, striking out just two, but kept them off balance, allowing just two hits.
The Voyagers biggest opportunity was in the first inning when they loaded the bases with nobody out. But a Michael Earley double-play, which included getting the lead runner at the plate, helped keep the Voyagers off the board in the inning. Right after Earley, Mark Haddow, who doubled in the ninth inning, fouled out to the first baseman to end the frame.
The Owlz took advantage of a David Herbek error in the fourth inning to get on the board first. With one out, Herbek booted a ground ball off the bat of Kaleb Cowart to put runners at second and third, before Frazier Hall singled both men home.
Peter Gehle (2-4) was the tough luck loser. The lefty, who is still yet to record a win at home, went five innings, giving up three runs, but just two earned. He also struck out six, walking only one in his sixth start of the season. In all of his outings, Gehle has gone exactly five innings.
The Voyagers lone run came in the bottom of the eighth inning when Qualon Millender singled home Martin Medina. On that same play, however, Ryan Jones threw out Jeffer Patino trying to score a second run.
The Voyagers are currently 3-3 during their homestand. The final game is tomorrow night at 7 p.m. with Jarrett Casey (3-0) on the mound against Suammy Baez (0-0).
