Grizzlies Hammer Wild Things On The Road

WASHINGTON, PA - The Gateway Grizzlies homered three times and starting pitcher Blake Barber got his first professional win as the Grizzlies took down the Washington Wild Things 8-3 on Saturday night at CONSOL Energy Park. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for Gateway.

Barber (1-2) went 5 1/3, giving up just three runs. Gateway's bullpen kept the Washington hitters scoreless for the final 3 2/3.

The Wild Things scored first in the first inning on a Scott Lawson solo home run, his fifth of the season.

Gateway (18-28) took a 2-1 lead in the third on a Kent Gerst two-run homer, his second home run in his four games with the Grizzlies.

Washington (19-26) tied it up with an Eric Stephens RBI single in the bottom of the fourth.

The score would stay tied until the sixth when Logan Parker and Charlie Lisk launched back-to-back home runs to drive in three runs and five Gateway a 5-2 lead.

After Washington scored a single tally in the sixth, Gateway scored once in the seventh and two in the ninth to add some insurance and set up the rubber game of the series on Sunday.

DJ Fitzgerald went 3-for-4 to pace Gateway.

The Grizzlies and Wild Things conclude their three game series and the first half of the Frontier League season on Sunday night in Washington. St. Genevieve, MO native Jake Donze (0-0) gets the start for Gateway. First is set for 5:35 CT.
