Mad Ants Extend Meyer's Contract

FORT WAYNE, IN (July 6, 2011) - The Fort Wayne Mad Ants have extended head coach Joey Meyer's contract for the 2011-12 season. Meyer was named to the position in June of 2009.
"We are very happy to have Coach back for another season with the Mad Ants," said Mad Ants President Jeff Potter. "We have seen unquestioned improvements every year with Joey and we look forward to that trend continuing in the upcoming season."
In his first two seasons as head coach of the Ants, Meyer has led the team to a 46-54 record. The 2010-11 team recorded the most wins, for the franchise in a season and was half a game shy of making the playoffs with a 24-26 record. Under Meyer's two year reign, the Mad Ants have had 3 players earn Call-Ups to the NBA.
This will be his 10th season as a head coach in the NBA Development League, where he has recorded the most wins of any coach and has two NBA D-League Championships.
"I am excited to be back with Ants for a third season," said Meyer. "I would like to thank Jeff and John for having me back. We have made improvements every year and will focus on making a run for the playoffs next season."
Meyer, the son of college basketball Hall of Fame coach Ray Meyer, coached under his father at DePaul University for 11 years and took over the reins in 1984. He remained head coach of the Blue Demons for 13 seasons, finishing with a 231-158 record, including six 20-win seasons, seven NCAA tournament appearances, and three NIT bids.
Meyer currently resides in Chicago with his wife Barbara, and he has one son, Brian, who is an NBA scout for the Chicago Bulls.
