Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.- Chicago Blackhawks General Manager of Minor League Affiliations Mark Bernard announced on Tuesday that the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League have signed center Peter LeBlanc and left wing Paul Zanette to a one-year AHL contract.
LeBlanc, 23, completed his rookie campaign in 2010-11, splitting time with the IceHogs and Toledo Walleye. The Hamilton, Ontario native posted 30 points (12g-18a) in 57 games for the IceHogs in his first professional season.
"We are very happy to have Peter under contract again for the upcoming season as he proved last year that he was a very versatile and reliable player night in and night out for the IceHogs," said Bernard. "Peter made great strides in his development last year and I'm excited to see him play a full AHL season in 2011-12."
The former seventh round pick (#186 overall) by the Blackhawks in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft notched 22 points (8g-14a) in 22 games for the Walleye. After being recalled to Rockford on Dec. 6, LeBlanc racked up goals in four-straight contests (4g), tying a season team-best. The centerman also tied for a team-high with four game-winning tallies.
Zanette, 23, finished his senior season at Niagara University where he was named a top-10 Hobey Baker Award finalist after compiling career-highs in goals (29), assists (26) and points (55). His 55 points more than doubled his output from the previous season and ranked sixth among all college skaters.
"We are thrilled to be able to sign a player of Paul's ability and character as he displayed both of these traits during his entire collegiate career," said Bernard. "Paul will add scoring depth to our roster and brings an unparalleled work ethic. He's another great young prospect that will fit into our locker room very well."
Following his season with Niagara, the Nobleton, Ontario native made his AHL debut with the Hamilton Bulldogs on March 30. Overall the winger skated in seven regular season tilts and 11 Calder Cup playoff games with Hamilton, recording three goals.
In four seasons with the Purple Eagles, Zanette registered 105 points (53g-52a) in 128 games.
