Iowa Cubs News Release

Reno, NV - The Chicago Cubs selected the contract of LH Doug Davis from the Iowa Cubs today. Davis will be on the mound in Chicago tonight as the Cubs host the San Francisco Giants. Chicago optioned RH Justin Berg to Iowa. Berg will join the I-Cubs and be available out of the bullpen tonight as the I-Cubs start a four-game series at Reno.

Davis made one start for Iowa on Tuesday night at Colorado Springs. He allowed two runs on four hits and struck out five in 3.2 innings. He also made one start for high-A Daytona after signing with the Cubs as a minor league free agent in April. Tonight will be Davis' first major league appearance since July 9 last season with Milwaukee. Davis has a career record of 91-101 and a 4.38 ERA in 297 games (277 starts) in his major league career.

Berg started the season with Iowa and was 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA in five games before getting called up on April 24. In six games with Chicago, Berg had no record and a 4.09 ERA. Berg has spent time with both Iowa and Chicago in each of the last three seasons.

In another move, the Cubs also outrighted RH Thomas Diamond off the 40-man roster. His active status with the I-Cubs is unaffected by that move.

The Cubs open a four-game series against the Reno Aces at Aces Ballpark in Reno tonight at 9:05 Central time. RH Ramon Ortiz (1-2, 3.89) will start for the Cubs against RH Matt Torra for the Aces. The game will be broadcast live on AM 940 with the Safeco On-Deck Circle Pre-Game Show starting at 8:45.
