Vipers Going Pink for a Purpose on Saturday
March 17, 2011 - NBA G League (G League)
Rio Grande Valley Vipers News Release
MCALLEN, TEXAS - The defending NBA Development League champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced Thursday that the team will wear pink uniforms, presented by Star Staffing, during their game on Saturday against the Austin Toros at 7:00 p.m. at State Farm Arena in support of the Mary Kay Foundation's fight against Breast Cancer and Violence Against Women.
The game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off after the game to benefit the Mary Kay Foundation.
Additionally, the Vipers are hosting a walkathon on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. at State Farm Arena in conjunction with the Mary Kay Foundation, Star Staffing, Lone Star National Bank, Doctors Hospital at Renaissance, L&F Distributors, RGV Careers, Amado Home Health and Lone Star Litho.
"We raised $5,000 with this event last year and we expect to raise even more this year. Anything we can do to help to find a cure for breast cancer and end violence against women is well worth it. We'll all be wearing pink on Saturday in a show of support and I hope our fans will join us in wearing pink for a purpose," Vipers President Bert Garcia said.
Other events on Saturday include a car show and a free tailgate party, courtesy of Pepper's at Uptown and Budweiser, beginning at 4:00 p.m. in the State Farm Arena parking lot. The ZOOperstars will perform at halftime and Houston Rockets Hall of Fame mascot Clutch the Bear will perform as well.
