FC Tampa Bay Signs Defensive Midfielder Tony McManus

TAMPA, Fla. (March 4, 2011) - FC Tampa Bay announces the signing of defensive midfielder Tony McManus, who most recently played for the Portland Timbers last season. McManus, a 30-year-old Tennessee native, signed a one-year contract with a one-year club option for 2012 with FC Tampa Bay.

McManus played for the Timbers for two seasons, making 51 appearances overall for the team and helped lead the team to a 24-game unbeaten streak and the USL First Division (USL-1) Regular Season Championship in 2009.

Prior to joining Portland, McManus played for the Atlanta Silverbacks from 2005-2008 - appearing in 156 matches, scoring seven goals and recording three assists. He also led the Silverbacks to the USL-1 championship match in 2007.

McManus played his college career at University of Alabama Birmingham where he was named C-USA first team All Conference, C-USA Defender of the Year and a College Soccer Times All America. He was drafted in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft by Chicago Fire.
