IceGators End Home Schedule with a Win

LAFAYETTE, LA - The Louisiana IceGators returned to the ice Thursday night for the last time in the Dome for the 2010-11 season. The Columbus Cottonmouths were in town to try to help their seeding for the playoffs. The IceGators derailed their plans and won 5-2.
The first period was slow developing. The first shot on goal, which was by the Cottonmouths, came less than eight minutes into the period. The IceGators first shot on goal was by Marc Rechlicz (LOU) with 8:42 remaining and it put the IceGators up 1-0. Louisiana ended up putting a streak of five consecutive shots on goal in the final 2:30 of the period. The second shot of the stretch was by Shawn McNeil (LOU) to put the IceGators up 2-0.
The second period had a little more action than the first period did but each team's goalie, Mike Brown (LOU) and Ian Vigier (COL) were up to the task. Neither goalie allowed a goal in the second period. Brown had 13 saves and Vigier had 9.
The third period began with the IceGators being very aggressive. In the first three minutes of the period, the 'Gators had five consecutive shots on goal but Vigier was able to stop all of them. With 4:54 left in the game Jason Hill (LOU) scored his 11th goal of the season and put the IceGators up 3-0. Louisiana looked like they were going to get the shut out but with 1:50 left on the clock Daryl Moore (COL) scored his 15th goal of the season. A little more than a minute later, Sam Bowles (COL) scored his 21st goal of the season. With the IceGators leading 3-2, Beau McLaughlin (LOU) and Robert Short (LOU) each added an empty net goal and sealed the game for the IceGators 5-2.
"The guys were able to put last night behind them and not let it affect them," answered IceGators' Head Coach Kevin Kaminski. "I am proud of the guys for how they concluded the home portion of the season."
The 'Gators will now hit the road for the remainder of the season after taking a week off. The 'Gators will travel to Columbus to take on the Cottonmouths on March 18th and Pensacola the following night on March 19th.
