February 22, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that goaltender Matt Dalton has been named the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week (02/14 - 02/20/11). Dalton, a second year pro from Clinton, Ontario, compiled a record of 3-0-0-0 with a 0.97 goals against average and a .974 save percentage for the Royals last week. He is the ninth goaltender in team history to receive the award, joining Barry Brust (three times), Scott Fankhouser, Yutaka Fukufuji, Peter Hamerlik, Adam Hauser, John Murray, Michael Ouzas, and Cody Rudkowsky (twice).
Dalton, who was the Royals' team Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year last season, began the week last Friday with a forty-eight save shutout-shootout 1-0 win over the Wheeling Nailers at Cambria County War Memorial Arena in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. That game established a new team record for total saves in shutout performance by a Royals' goaltender. On Saturday, Dalton made 27 saves in a 3-1 win over the Nailers in the Royals Fourth Annual Pink in the Rink Celebration at the Sovereign Center. He closed the week with a 37-save 5-2 win over the Elmira Jackals in Reading on Sunday.
In twenty-one games with the Royals this year, Dalton has compiled a record of 14-6-1-0 with a 2.66 goals against average and a .922 save percentage, which is currently second best in the ECHL. He has three shutouts with Reading this year, which is tied for the league lead in that category. In sixteen games with the Providence Bruins of the AHL this season, Dalton has compiled a record of 7-9-0 with a 3.20 goals against average and a .894 save percentage. He was named the P-Bruins Player of the Month Award in January.
The Royals take on the Trenton Devils tomorrow (Wednesday, February 23, 2011 @ 7:05) at the Sovereign Center, when the team will host the "Royals Wings Fest," which will feature an intermission wings eating contest. The Royals game day broadcast will kick off with the pre-game warm-up show presented by The Works at Wyomissing on the Royals Broadcast Network (WRAW 1340 am in Reading, www.1340wraw.com) at 6:35 pm.
