IceGators Shut Out Havoc On The Road

LAFAYETTE, LA -The Louisiana IceGators (9-33) returned to the ice Friday night after having their game Thursday night being postponed. The ‘Gators hit the road to take on one of the top teams in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL), the Huntsville Havoc (22-14). And one of the newest members of the IceGators was able to shut the Havoc out 3-0.

Louisiana opened the first period putting the pressure on the Havoc early. The ‘Gators got the first three of four shots on goal. On the third shot the ‘Gators capitalized when Tobias Karlsson (LOU) scored his fourth goal of the season and put the IceGators up 1-0. The Havoc then quickly put the pressure on the IceGators and Joss St. Pierre (LOU), Louisiana's goalie. With 32 seconds left in the period, Jason Hill (LOU) and Beau McLaughlin (LOU) helped Eric Tallent (LOU) score his second goal of the season.

The IceGators opened the second period with a 2-0 lead and wanted to increase the lead in a hurry. The ‘Gators opened the period with the first three shots on goal in the first four minutes. Huntsville responded outshooting the IceGators 9-4 in the final 14 minutes of the period. However, St. Pierre was up to the task an saved each shot on goal.

The third period began with the up 2-0 and on a power play for the first minute of the period. The power play was quickly ended when McLaughlin was called for hooking. With both teams at even strength, Hill scored his 7th goal of the season and put the ‘Gators up 3-0. With 7:27 left in the game the ‘Gators' Karlsson was called for roughing and Marc Rechlicz was called for fighting with the Havoc's Adam Knopp. In addition to the fights and roughing Glen Detulleo (HUN) was called for Kneeing and was also given a Game Misconduct. When the teams returned to playing hockey the ‘Gators were up 3-0 and did not look like they were going to give the lead away.

"We played really well tonight," answered IceGators Head Coach Kevin Kaminski. "Everyone did what they need to do and stayed focused all night. It is important we keep this focus going on the road tomorrow night."
