IceGators Hit the Road in Need of a Win

LAFAYETTE, LA - The Louisiana IceGators (7-13) go on the road for two games this weekend. The 'Gators travel to Huntsville on Friday, December 17 at 7:30 to take on the Havoc (12-6). Then the IceGators stay on the road for a game on Saturday, December 18 at 6:35 against the Knoxville IceBears (7-10). The 'Gators enter the road trip at 4-6 on the road and Huntsville is 7-4 and Knoxville is 4-5 at home.

The Havoc and 'Gators last faced off on December 3rd and 4th. Each of the games were won by the 'Gators in the Cajundome. The 'Gators won the first game of the weekend 2-1 winning on a Beau McLaughlin goal in a shoot-out. Then on December 4th the 'Gators dominated the Havoc and won 6-3.

During the season series with the Havoc, the 'Gators have led the series 2-1 with each game played in Louisiana. During the three games the 'Gators have been led by Beau McLaughlin and Trevor Karasiewicz. McLaughlin has three goals and two assists and Karasiewicz has one goal and three assists. The 'Gators have three other players that have three points against the Havoc, Dennis Sicard (who is suspended for the game against the Havoc), Mike Sellitto, and Eric Tallent. Huntsville has two players, Mike MacDonald and Omar Pacha, who lead the Havoc with three points each. MacDonald has two goals and one assist while Pacha has three assists.

When the 'Gators hit the ice against the IceBears it will be the first meeting between the two teams this season. Knoxville has three players in the top-20 of points scored. The IceBears' are led by Emery Olauson, who ranks 17th in the Southern Professional Hockey League with 18 points. Frank Furdero and Mark Van Vliet are tied for 19th in the SPHL with 17 points.

The 'Gators have four players in the top 8 in points scored in the SPHL. Karasiewicz leads the league with 34 points, last season he scored 48 points in 34 games. McLaughlin is 6th with 25 points, Donald Melnyk is 7th with 23 points, and Shawn McNeil is tied for 8th with 22 points.

"This is an important weekend," answered IceGators Head Coach Dave MacIsaac before the team hit the road to travel to Huntsville. "We need to be focused and come out to play from the beginning. Going on the road can be tough but we will need to start the game fast and take the crowd out of the game early."

The 'Gators hit the road for two games next weekend. They will take on the Havoc of Huntsville Friday, December 17 at 7:30 and then travel north to take on the Knoxville IceBears the next day for the first time this season. Louisiana will then return to the Dome for two games the following week on Wednesday, December 22 against the Pensacola Ice Flyers.
