Louisiana IceGators News Release
LAFAYETTE, LA - Thursday night the IceGators began a stretch of three games in three days, two of the three at home. Each game is against the top two teams in the league, the Pensacola Ice Flyers and the Huntsville Havoc. Tonight the 'Gators fell a little short to the Ice Flyers 4-3.
Pensacola opened the first period quickly. Kyle Dorowicz (PEN) scored less than three minutes into the opening period. With 12:31 left in the period Tyler Barr (PEN) poked the puck pass Scott Darling, IceGators goalie. The first period only saw eight shots total on goal, four by each team.
The second period was similar to the first period, with each team totaling six goals each. With 14:28 left in the period, Dennis Sicard was called for high sticking and this penalty would come back to haunt the 'Gators. Brett Liscomb (PEN) scored his second goal of the season on a power play goal with 13:22 remaining. The Ice Flyers would then return the favor to the IceGators when Keven Kozlowski (PEN) was called for tripping. Shawn McNeil (LOU) scored a power play goal 1:30 after the penalty and cut the Ice Flyer lead to 3-1. Two minutes later, Tobias Karlsson (LOU) scored his first goal of the season. Then shortly before the end of the period, 'Gators' Mike Sellitto scored and tied the game at 3-3.
Entering the third period, knotted at three, the IceGators would be the first to make a mistake. Trevor Karasiewicz (LOU) was called for elbowing. The 'Gators almost killed the penalty but with 19 seconds left in the power play Matt Whitehead put the Ice Flyers ahead 4-3 with 12:33 left in the game and they would never look back.
"I feel like I say the same thing after each lose," exclaimed a frustrated IceGator Head Coach Dave MacIsaac after losing to the Ice Flyers. "We allow ourselves to get in a hole early and have to fight just to get back in the game. We need to go back to the basics and start the game quicker and not allow our opponents to jump on us."
The 'Gators are home again tomorrow on Black Friday, against the Huntsville Havoc at 7:05. Fans are encouraged to come out and help "Black Out the Dome" by wearing black. Fans will also have a chance to win black pearls from Andy's Jewelry and an Xbox 360 along with Black Ops the game. Don't miss a moment of the action. Call (337) 704-4423.
