Augusta RiverHawks News Release

Thanksgiving is usually a day to give thanks and togetherness, however for the Columbus Cottonmouths it was a day for revenge as they defeated the Augusta RiverHawks 4-1 Thursday night at the Columbus Civic Center. The victory comes just a few days after the RiverHawks beat the Cottonmouths 5-2 in Augusta.

Cottonmouths' forward Darryl Moore was the offensive star of the night for his team scoring two goals back-to-back in the second period while already up two on the RiverHawks.

At the other end of the ice it was goaltender Andrew Loewen who came up huge for the Cottonmouths picking up his first win of the season stopping 27 shots. His shutout bid lasted until the final two minutes of the game when RiverHawks forward Greg Holt finally broke through with his first goal of the season with just 1:12 remaining on the clock. RiverHawks defenseman Curtis Megginson recorded the lone assist on the goal.

The RiverHawks were unable to give goaltender Jon Olthuis much support offensively despite him making 34 saves. His record now stands at an even 4-4 this season.

The loss drops the RiverHawks' record to 5-7 on the season as they continue through a busy holiday weekend that sees they play two more games.

The RiverHawks are back in action Friday, November 26th against the Fayetteville FireAntz at the James Brown Arena. The puck drops at 7:30pm. Fans can take advantage of their Black Friday festivities by bringing a receipt from any RiverHawks' sponsor to the James Brown Arena Box Office and receive a $5 Upper Bowl Ticket for that night's game (limit four).
