Fort Wayne, IN (November 23, 2010)- The Fort Wayne Mad Ants swept the Sioux Falls Skyforce in an opening week double header, defeating the Skyforce 111-101 tonight at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. Roderick Wilmont continued his hot start to the season by leading all scorers with 29 points.
Wilmont came out of the gates gunning with 12 first quarter points for the Ants, as they outscored the Skyforce 34-31 going into the second period.
The game went back and forth in the second quarter, and the Skyforce eventually stole the lead late in the second period off of back to back jumpers by Anthony Mason Jr. Mason finished the quarter with 11 points - 15 for the half - and the Skyforce entered intermission with a 62-60 lead
That was the last lead the Skyforce would see, however, as the second half was all Mad Ants. Wilmont continued his torrid play on the offensive end, and he became a force on the defensive end with with a key steal that helped push the Mad Ants lead out to seven in the third quarter.
The fourth quarter was where Walker Russell, Jr. made his presence felt in the fourth quarter by controlling the game and making sure the Mad Ants answered every challenge the Skyforce made to the lead. Walker tallied 5 assists in the quarter and kept the Mad Ants in a comfortable lead as they closed out the sweep.
The Mad Ants were led by Wilmont, who finished the game with a game high 29 points. Walker chipped in 14 points to go with his 14 assists, Darnell Lazare had 14 points and 7 rebounds, and Marvin Phillips, Jr. had 14 points and 9 rebounds.
