Lake County Fielders News Release
Zion, IL. The Lake County Fielders minor league baseball team has hired former MLB field manager Tim Johnson as its skipper for 2011.
Johnson was an infielder with the Milwaukee Brewers from 1973-1978, and in 1998 served as field manager for the Toronto Blue Jays, guiding the MLB club to an 88-74 record; the team's first winning season in 5 years.
Johnson replaces Fran Riordan, who is returning to the Frontier League after his first season in the Northern League. "Fran did an excellent job for us in our inaugural season, and we wish him well," said team President Rich Ehrenreich. "Tim is a very serious hire for this organization. As a field manager, he's been a proven winner from every level in the minors on up to the majors. We're excited to have Tim on board."
Johnson ("TJ") will begin his role with the Fielders immediately. "Going all the way back to my years with the Brewers, this area has always been good to me," said TJ. "It feels like coming home, and I can't wait to get started on building the best team possible for our fans."
The Lake County Fielders are co-owned by Academy Award winner and baseball enthusiast Kevin Costner. 2011 season tickets and group outings are currently available. For more information call (847) 731-8000 or log onto www.fieldersbaseball.com.
