Laredo Bucks News Release

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League announced Wednesday that they have signed forward Hans Benson for the 2010-11 season. Benson, who helped the Bucks capture the 2006 President's Cup Championship, spent time in the AHL and ECHL the last four seasons.

Benson, who will turn 27 on September 20th, has piled up a total 1,240 PIM's and scored 54 points (16-3854) in 298 career games (4.2 PIM's per game). In his two seasons in Laredo from 2004-2006 Benson amassed 429 PIM's and picked up 27 points (8-1927) in 113 regular season games, while scoring five points (3-25) and notching 47 PIM's in 20 CHL playoff games.

"Hans is one of the best enforcers that I have ever seen. He makes sure that none of his teammates are ever getting pushed around," said Bucks President/General Manager and Head Coach Terry Ruskowski. "Our team toughness hasn't been the same since Hans left. With him on our roster there's no doubt that we will be one of the most aggressive teams in the league."

Last season the 6'0'', 215 pound Benson spent time with the AHL's Portland Pirates and ECHL's Cincinnati Cyclones, who he helped lead to the 2010 Kelly Cup Championship. In 11 games with the Pirates Benson had 35 PIM's, while in 47 games for the Cyclones he notched 154 PIM's and had 14 points (3-1114). In last seasons playoffs Benson picked up a postseason career high eight points (1-78) to go along with 65 PIM's.

"Hans picks up his game in the playoffs and that's what makes him such an asset to any team," said Ruskowski. "He's a character guy and we are looking forward to having him back in Laredo."

In 2008-09 Benson attended NHL rookie camp with the Edmonton Oilers, and played in one pre-season game after attending main camp with the Oilers as well. In 2008-09 with the AHL's Springfield Falcons Benson picked up 98 PIM's and handed out one assist in 35 games.

The Menlo Park, California native attended NHL rookie camp with the St. Louis Blues in 2007-08. Benson led the AHL's Peoria Rivermen in PIM's with 265 during the 2007-08 campaign.

In the 2006-07 season Benson spent time with the AHL's Peoria Rivermen and ECHL's Alaska Aces. He picked up 54 PIM's in just 15 games with the Rivermen, and led the Aces with 205 PIM's while picking up five points (2-35). In 11 playoff games that season Benson had one assist and 50 PIM's.

Benson began his professional career with the Bucks from 2004-2006. In the 2005-06 season Benson finished second on the Bucks with 233 PIM's while picking up 10 points (4-610) in 53 games. Benson helped lead the Bucks to the 2006 President's Cup Championship by scoring five points (3-25) and leading the team with 47 PIM's in 16 playoff games. Benson's game-winning double-overtime goal in game five of the conference finals against Odessa sent the Bucks into the championship series.

In the 2004-05 campaign Benson finished third among CHL rookies in PIM's with 196 while scoring a career-high 17 points (4-1317) playing in all 60 games. Benson appeared in four playoff games in 2005.

In three junior seasons Benson piled up 719 PIM's and scored 42 points (17-2542) in 128 games. Benson was a member of the Selkirk Steelers MJHL Turnbull Cup Championship team in 2003-04 and led the league with 371 PIM's.
