Oklahoma City Barons News Release

The Oklahoma City Barons will open their first American Hockey League training camp September 27 at the Cox Convention Center at 10 a.m., the team's front office announced today.

The Barons coaching staff of Todd Nelson and Gerry Fleming left for Edmonton September 7 to take part in all aspects of the Oilers training camp experience, beginning with the Oilers Rookie Camp September 9. Following the rookie camp, they will travel with the team to the Prospects Tournament in Penticton, B.C. Upon their return to Edmonton, Nelson and Fleming will participate in the Oilers main training camp which opens September 17.

All players who are property of the Oilers will participate in the rookie camp, main training camp or both. A sizeable portion of the Barons roster will be sent to Oklahoma City following the conclusion of the Oilers' main camp.

"The goal of our staff is to evaluate and get a read on the players we might see in OKC," said Barons head coach Todd Nelson. "The early part of camp in Oklahoma City will be a mix of players already assigned to our team as well as free agent players looking for an opportunity to make our club. As we progress through our camp and Edmonton continues to assign players to Oklahoma City, we will make those adjustments as necessary."

Nelson and Fleming will return to Oklahoma City to prepare for the Barons camp. The training camp sessions will take place in the morning only and will be followed by a private workout session in the afternoon. The on-ice portion of training camp is open to the public and is free to attend. The Barons skate in their lone preseason game October 2 at the Cedar Park Center in Cedar Park, Texas at 7 p.m.
