Round Rock Express News Release
Back-to-back homers off the bats of Drew Locke and Brian Bogusevic in the first inning, along with Shane Loux pitching 6.2 sharp innings lifted the Round Rock Express to a 6-2 victory over the Portland Beavers Thursday night at PGE Park. The Express (53-73) have won the first three games of the series and play their last game in Portland (48-78) on Friday, as the club will move to a site in Southern California next season.
Loux (4-11) picked up his first victory in nine tries on the road this season. He allowed two runs over 6.2 innings of eight-hit ball, walking just one while fanning two. The right-hander worked six shutout innings, sitting down the first nine batters of the game, before allowing the pair of runs in the seventh. Loux has a 1.90 ERA (5 ER/23.2 IP) over his last four starts.
Reliever Gary Majewski worked around trouble in the bottom of the ninth. However, with bases loaded and the tying run at the plate, he struck out the final two batters of the game.
Round Rock plated four runs in the first inning, behind back-to-back homers by Drew Lock and Brian Bogusevic. Locke's was a one-out two-run blast after J.B. Shuck led off the game with a single. Matt Kata followed Bogusevic with a single and later scored on a Collin DeLome triple.
Two runs extended the lead to 6-0 for the Express in the fifth frame. Shuck led off the inning with a single and scored on a one-out RBI single from Bogusevic. Kata followed that with a sac fly scoring Locke.
Portland got on the board in the seventh after three consecutive singles to start the inning. Loux induced a double play, but it brought in Wily Mo Pena. Louis Durango followed that with an RBI double, scoring Kyle Phillips.
Cesar Carrillo (4-13) recorded the loss, allowing all six runs on seven hits over 5.0 innings. He walked two and had three strikeouts, while giving up two home runs. Three relievers worked three scoreless innings to finish the game.
Shuck's two hits helped him continue his current six-game hitting streak, his longest with the Express. Bogusevic added two hits and a run, which plants him second all-time in Express history for runs with 89. Locke's homer secured him in ninth place all-time in Express history with 212 total bases, he also climbed the list to seventh on the RBI list with 72.
Round Rock and Portland conclude their four-game series Friday with a 9:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at PGE Park. A Pair of dueling southpaws square off, as the Express send Andy Van Hekken (7-6, 4.20 ERA) to the mound, countered by Cory Luebke (4-0, 3.92) for the Beavers.
