Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that they have signed forward Matt Siddall (SIH-duhl) for the 2010-11 season.

The North Vancouver, BC native rejoins the Salmon Kings after spending the final 21 games of the 2009-10 season in Victoria scoring 21 points (6g-15a) and serving 55 minutes in penalties. Siddall also recorded two assists in the five Kelly Cup Playoff contests with Victoria this past spring. He joined the Salmon Kings on February 2, 2010 after being re-assigned from the Gwinnett Gladiators by the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for future considerations. Siddall spent the first 31 games of the season in Gwinnett where he recorded 28 points (14g-14a) while accruing 90 penalty minutes.

"Matt was a significant pick-up for us last season," General Manager and Head Coach Mark Morrison said. "He is a physical presence with a good two-way game."

The 6-1, 205 lb. Siddall began his professional career in 2008-09 split between the Gladiators and the American Hockey League's Chicago Wolves. The majority of his season was spent in Gwinnett where he accumulated 37 points (17g-20a) and 153 penalty minutes over 40 games. He also dressed for two of Gwinnett's Kelly Cup Playoff games where he amassed one assist and six penalty minutes. Siddall also played 20 games in the AHL with the Wolves where he tallied one assist and served 19 minutes in penalties.

The 25-year-old was drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the ninth round (270th overall) at the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

Siddall played four seasons of junior hockey in the NCAA with the Northern Michigan University Wildcats, totaling 76 points (32g-44a) and 357 penalty minutes in 147 games played. He was also named to the All-Tournament Team as a member of the Wildcats at the 2008 Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Tournament. Also in 2008, Siddall won the Dennis Siblisky Memorial Senior Award as the program's top senior player.

Before joining the Wildcats, Siddall spent two seasons (2002-03 and 2003-04) in the BCHL with the Langley Chiefs and Powell River Kings, respectively, where he totaled 111 points (47g-64a) in 102 games played while gathering 325 penalty minutes.

The Salmon Kings open the 2010-11 season on Friday, October 15th in Idaho with a two-game set versus the defending National Conference champion Steelheads.
