BURLINGTON, VT --- Diogenes Luis had an RBI single to score Chris Winder with an unearned run in the top of the seventh inning to give the Hudson Valley Renegades a 2-1 New York-Penn League victory and hand the Vermont Lake Monsters their fifth straight loss at historic Centennial Field on Thursday night.

With two outs and no one on in the seventh Vermont reliever Glenn Gibson got Winder to hit a pop up in the infield, but Lake Monsters third baseman Justin Miller was unable to catch the pop up for an error. Winder then stole second base and scored on Luis' line drive single to right field for the lead.

Hudson Valley had taken a 1-0 lead in the fourth on a Mayo Acosta RBI single before the Lake Monsters tied the game in the fifth as Wade Moore singled, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a Kevin Keyes RBI single to through the right side.

Renegade starter Jacob Thompson allowed one run on five hits over five innings, while reliever Robert Dickmann (1-1) struckout five in two innings of relief for the win. Austin Hubbard allowed a leadoff single in the ninth, but left the tying run at second base as he retired Keyes and Cole Leonida to end the game for his fourth save.

Vermont, which had given up 43 runs in the previous four games, got strong pitching from starter Chad Jenkins on Thursday. Jenkins allowed one run on four hits with four strikeouts over five innings in a no-decision, while Glenn Gibson (0-1) struckout four in 2 1/3 innings but was charged with the unearned run to take the loss.

Luis was 2-for-5 and Acosta 2-for-3 at the plate for Hudson Valley (18-19), which has won two straight after a three-game losing streak. Moore, Chad Mozingo and Hendry Jimenez each had two hits for Vermont (23-16).

The Lake Monsters remain 2 1/2 games in front of Connecticut for first-place in the Stedler Division and will wrap up the seven-game homestand on Thursday against Hudson Valley beginning at 7:05 pm. Vermont will then head out on a four-game roadtrip to Lowell and Tri-City.
