
Anaheim Ducks Sign Defenseman Danny Syvret

Syracuse, NY (July 21, 2010) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Anaheim Ducks have signed defenseman Danny Syvret to a one-year contract. As per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Syvret, 25, appeared in 15 games for Adirondack last season, tallying 13 points (5g, 8a) and six penalty minutes. In addition, he skated in 21 games for Philadelphia last year, recording four points (2g, 2a) and 12 penalty minutes, with his first NHL goal coming in the Flyers' 2-1 overtime loss to Boston in the NHL Winter Classic on January 1 at Fenway Park.
Since the 2005-06 season, Syvret has appeared in 273 combined AHL games with Hamilton, Grand Rapids, Springfield, Hershey, Philadelphia (Phantoms) and Adirondack, posting 130 points (23g, 107a) and 147 penalty minutes.
He tallied a career-high 57 points (12g, 45a) during the 2008-09 AHL season with Philadelphia and was selected to represent his club at the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic, where he put up three assists for the Canadian AHL All-Stars. He has also appeared in 49 career NHL games with Edmonton and Philadelphia, recording five points (2g, 3a) and 24 penalty minutes.
Prior to turning pro, Syvret spent parts of four seasons from 2001-05 with the Ontario Hockey League's (OHL) London Knights, appearing in 199 games, registering 122 points (34g, 88a) and 96 penalty minutes. His most successful season came during the 2004-05 campaign when he tallied 69 points (23g, 46a) along with a league-best plus-70 rating.
In addition during the 2004-05 season, he was named the winner of the Max Kaminsky Trophy as the OHL's Most Outstanding Defenseman, Canadian Hockey League (CHL) Defenseman of the Year, CHL First All-Star Team and CHL Memorial Cup All-Star Team. Syvret was also a member of Team Canada's gold medal-winning World Junior Championship squad and finished off his impressive year by captaining London's Memorial Cup Championship Team.
A native of Millgrove, Ontario, Syvret was originally selected by Edmonton in the third round, 81st overall, in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
