BURLINGTON, VT --- David Anderson went 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBI, while Kipp Schutz and Trent Mummey each had a pair of doubles as the Aberdeen Ironbirds pounded out 15 hits in a 10-4 victory over the Vermont Lake Monsters in New York-Penn League action Friday night at historic Centennial Field.

The Lake Monsters led 2-1 when the Ironbirds struck for three runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth off Vermont starter Taylor Jordan to take a 6-3 lead. Michael Flacco and Anderson had RBI singles in the fourth, while Adam Gaylord and Anderson had RBI singles in the fifth.

Blair Dunlop added an RBI single in the seventh in his first game with the Ironbirds, then after a Wilifri Pena RBI double in the eighth got the Lake Monsters within three runs at 7-4, Anderson hit a two-run opposite field homer off Shane Zellers to give Aberdeen a 5-run lead. Mummey closed out the scoring with an RBI double to score Michael Rooney.

Vermont got out quickly with two runs in the bottom of the first inning on a David Freitas RBI double and Justin Miller RBI single. But the Lake Monsters only hit until the seventh inning came on a Jason Martinson leadoff triple in the fourth inning as Vermont was held to five hits for the game.

Freitas' RBI double in the first inning extended his hitting streak to 13 games, which is tied for the fifth longest in Vermont history. Martinson's triple gave him an eight-game hitting streak, while Blake Kelso has hit in seven straight after a single in the seventh inning.

Jordan (1-1) allowed six runs on eight hits over 4 2/3 innings to pick up his first loss of the season, while Aberdeen starter Tyler Sexton (1-2) allowed three runs on three hits over 5 2/3 innings for the win. Stephen Mazur went the final 1 1/3 for the save in his first appearance for Aberdeen (13-15).

The loss snaps a three-game winning streak for Vermont (20-8), which leads the Stedler Division by five games over Connecticut. The loss was also the first this season for the Lake Monsters in the final game of a series after nine straight wins.

Vermont continues the homestand on Saturday when they host the Staten Island Yankees with first pitch at 6:05 pm. Former Major League pitchers Bill Lee and Oil Can Boyd will be at Centennial to sign autographs and throw out the first pitch.
