Jamestown Jammers News Release
JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - State College scored early and took advantage of wild Jamestown pitching, beating the Jammers 11-7 at Diethrick Park.
Starting pitcher Josh Hodges struggled out of the gate. He walked the first batter he faced before inducing a double play, but he allowed a double and a home run to give the Spikes (6-6) an early 2-0 lead. In the second inning, Hodges allowed a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0 Spikes.
Then the walks started to pile up. Hodges issued free passes to the first three batters he faced in the top of the third inning before Gift Ngoepe hit a bases-clearing triple, giving State College a 6-0 lead. John Lambert relieved Hodges and threw a wild pitch to the first batter he faced, plating Ngoepe with the seventh run of the game.
Bobby Holmes entered to start the fourth inning and walked all six batters he faced, scoring three runs. Kenneth Toves replaced Holmes and allowed the 11th and final run of the night for State College on a ground out.
The Jammers (7-5) did not go quietly into the night, scoring twice in the third inning, twice in the fifth and three times in the seventh. Aaron Senne had a big night, going 3-for-4 with a walk, a homer and five runs batted in. He singled in a run in the third, doubled in a run in the fifth and hit a three-run home run in the seventh. His blast to right field put Jamestown within striking distance, but State College's bullpen shut the door over the final two innings.
The loss ended the Jammers' three-game winning streak, but they still sit in first place in the Pinckney Division after Auburn lost to Williamsport. Jamestown and State College will conclude their three-game series tomorrow at 7:05 pm.
NOTES: Ryan Fisher's seven-game hitting streak ended with an 0-5 night with four strikeouts...Senne's night raised his batting average to .324...Jordan Conley pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his fifth scoreless outing of the season.
