Gwinnett Gladiators President Steve Chapman was re-elected as the Chairman of the ECHL Board of Governors for the fifth consecutive season. In his role as Chairman, Chapman oversees the ECHL's Executive Committee and approves the members and the chairman of all other committees. In addition, he will continue to represent the league ownership groups in various capacities concerning the ECHL.
"It is an honor to have the other league governors approve my position as Chairman of the Board," said Chapman. "I enjoy working with the Commissioner, our league staff and the other owners, governors and employees of the ECHL and its teams. I look forward to playing a positive role in ensuring that the ECHL remains a premiere destination for fans looking for quality entertainment opportunities and quality hockey."
League-wide average attendance in the ECHL has increased in each of the past four seasons. In addition, The League has seen over 186 former players make their NHL debut over that same span.
Chapman was voted ECHL Executive of the Year in 2005 and 2006 becoming the first person in league history to win the award twice.
Responsible for overseeing the business and hockey operations of the Gladiators, Chapman spearheaded the effort to launch the Gladiators in Gwinnett in May of 2002. He led the Gladiators to six consecutive playoff appearances, two conference championship appearances and one Kelly Cup Finals appearance in seven seasons in Gwinnett.
The Gwinnett Gladiators open the 2010-11 season on the road before returning home to host the South Carolina Stingrays on Friday, October 22nd at 7:35 p.m. The Gladiators are the AA affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
