Hartford Colonials News Release
HARTFORD, CT - Tuesday, June 15, 2010 - Hartford Colonials Head Coach and General Manager Chris Palmer announced the team has added defensive back Ryan Glasper and linebacker Willie VanDeSteeg to the roster.
Glasper, a New Britain, CT native and former Southington High School standout, participated in open tryouts with the Colonials on May 22 in Danbury. He worked out for the coaching staff June 11.
Glasper, 25, will report to Colonials training camp Aug. 16.
"For a guy like me, with my style of play, when I excel the most is when I'm in helmet and shoulder pads," Glasper said. "Just given that opportunity, I'm pretty blessed. Being a local guy, I think this is an ideal situation."
Glasper (5-11, 215) played for the Hamilton-Tiger Cats of the Canadian Football League in 2007-08. He was also a member of the Toronto Argonauts and Edmonton Eskimos.
In 2006, Glasper was All-ACC Honorable Mention as a senior at Boston College. He was also named to the Sporting News Big East All-Freshmen Team in 2003.
VanDeSteeg (6-4, 256) earned First Team All-Big Ten honors at Minnesota as a senior in 2008. He spent last season on the Baltimore Ravens practice squad and was released last week.
Other rosters moves: the Colonials waived offensive lineman Elton Brown, long snapper Tim Lindsey and tight end Jeb Putzier.
